Another great night was enjoyed on Friday, 25th—Burns’ Birthday—at The Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Centre.
Alastair Savage and Euan Drysdale entertained us with a medley of modern and traditional songs, all in celebration of Robert Burns and his life story.
The evening was rounded off by some very tasty haggis, neeps and tatties and some followed the true Burns tradition by coupling that with a wee nip of whisky from the bar.
Above: Alastair Savage & Euan Drysdale.
Alastair will be putting together a series of concerts for us, at Palmerston, and we look forward greatly to hearing what he has in store for us.

Ann Said, "Jim has worked as a volunteer for The Centre since its inception and is already a valuable member of the team. I'm delighted to welcome him on board as a fellow director and trustee of the charity".
Congratulations to the Groot family who celebrated the naming of their youngest child: Avril Abigale Anne Groot, at a special naming ceremony held on Sunday 6 May in the Sanctuary.

Rachael Dunsmore, a martial arts tutor, who holds her Taiji (Tai Chi) and Qi Gong (Chi Kung) Classes at The Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Centre visited China last month to become an official disciple of Daoist Master Yuan Xiu Gang.
She has become part of the 16th generation of Wudang San Feng Pai, which is a Daoist martial arts lineage including Taiji and Qi gong. Rachael's Daoist name is Zi Jiao and she feels very fortunate to be part of the lineage, which commits her to studying and teaching Daoism and Wushu as part of her spiritual path for the rest of her life!
There are not many westerners that get to enter a lineage such as this, and she is the only San Feng Pai disciple in the UK and one of very few females in Europe! The position means that Daoist martial arts will have a formal connection to Scotland from China from now onwards into the future, which is a real first and very exciting.
Hopefully Master Yuan and other famous people in the lineage will come to visit Rachael, here in Scotland in the future.
Congratulations, and well done, Rachael.
Rachael's Class is on every Thursday at 10 a.m.

Baby Massage Classes now take place weekly at The Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Centre.
Every Tuesday at 2pm the Mothers and Baby's arrive for Baby Massage Class.
Surprisingly, all is quite when the massage is going on, but the babies don't like it when it stops!!!
Mothers usually then partake of a nice cup of tea in the tearoom with our speciality carrot cake!
We have also now started a Mothers and Baby Yoga Class too - see What's On for details.
14 new full members of our Church who were accepted into full membership at a special service on Sunday 29 Jan. Thanks for bringing your friends and family and making it such a special occasion. it was lovely to see the Church packed with not a seat to spare!
The last year has undoubtedly been one of great excitement and change for our Church as we moved into the new Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Centre in Palmerston Place and embarked upon a new phase of our Church’s life and mission. With 110 years of experience in promoting the religion of Spiritualism in Edinburgh and the Lothians, 2012 promises to be one of equal challenge as our Church starts another year of activities aimed at growing our congregation and membership; making more people aware of our work and purpose.
In a modern age of social networking and technology our philosophy and belief is more accessible than ever and we, like all other faiths, must embrace the opportunities that offers us to ensure that the message of Spiritualism reaches as many people as possible. I hope that 2012 offers you the opportunity to change your life and become stronger, healthier and more spiritually aware as we all strive to become more conscious of the helpful guidance that spirit and God has to offer us all.
A Happy New Year

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Centre

October 17th 2011:
John Blackwood OSNU speaks to Sue Gyford of Edinburgh Evening News about the new home for Spiritualism in Edinburgh's West End...
John said, “Everybody thinks ‘Spiritualism is only about talking to dead people’. People often confuse us up with occultism, fortune telling, superstition – all of which we don’t believe in."
"We’re trying to get the message across that Spiritualism is a religion like any other. Our services are normal services like any other church, but we’re quite inclusive and diverse as a religion, encouraging people to understand that all religions have something to offer and what is more important is how people relate to what they perceive to be God.”
